BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Thousands flocked to the North Capitol Road and Lacson Street in Bacolod City during the weekend to join the BacoLaodiat Festival activities leading to the Chinese New Year celebration today.

The Lantern Dance Competition took place last night in four performance areas: Globe Stage at 13th Street, Coca-Cola Stage at PNB area, North Capitol Road, and 888 Premier Mall.

Winners of the Lantern Dance Competition and the Monkey King Lantern Contest will be announced today at the North Capitol Road festival site.

Organizers did not name the champion in the Monkey King Lantern Contest but said Alvin Infante of San Diego Parish in Silay City was first runner-up, and won P30,000 in cash.

Paula Ongsuco of Team Creativo was second runner-up, and Patrick Payumo of Adventurer was third runner-up. They received P20,000 and P10,000 in cash, respectively.

Crispulo Rosales of Kite Maker, Ebenezer Ursos Jr. of Artek, and Edsie Sazon won consolation prizes of P5,000 each.

A countdown to the Chinese New Year was held at the North Capitol Road at 11:50 last night, and was capped with a grand fireworks display “the Symphony of Lights and Sparks” at midnight.*CGS
