Solar firm starts selling
power to Visayas grid

The solar farm in Cadiz City, dubbed as the biggest in South East Asia and the seventh largest in the world, began supplying power to the Visayas grid Saturday, Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante said yesterday.

The inauguration of the 132 megawatt solar farm on 176 hectares in Barangay Tinampaan, Cadiz City, has been moved from February 19 to March 3, he said.

He also said President Benigno Aquino will be unable to attend the inauguration.

Soleq, the firm that built the about P10-billion solar farm, had invited Aquino to the inauguration.

The solar farm will sell its solar power to the grid at about P8.69 per kwh, he said.

The solar farm that generated 2,500 jobs during its construction stage is expected to hire about 250 employees for its operations, Escalante said.*CPG
