Ex-cop found dead
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A retired policeman was found dead Thursday night at the highway of Brgy. 5, Isabela, Negros Occidental, with fatal injuries in the back of his head, and his right hand fractured, Chief Inspector Anthony Grande, town police chief, said yesterday.

The victim was identified by the Isabela police as retired SPO2 Ronnie Destacamento.

Grande said investigations of the Isabela police showed that Destacamento, 59, was found lying on the highway by motorists.

Grande said they suspect that Destacamento, who used to be assigned at the Isabela Police Station, may have been a victim of “hit and run”, although they are not ruling out yet the possibility of foul play.

He said they have requested for a post-mortem examination on his body to determine the exact cause of death.

Grande said the victim and his son, Ronnie Jr., a barangay chairman of Brgy. 6 poblacion, Isabela had attended a fiesta in Hacienda Nalipay, Brgy. 5, of the town.

Investigations of the Isabela police further showed that his son had offered to bring him home. But Destacamento declined the offer, saying he will go home later.

His body was found at the highway later, Grande said.*GPB
