Leni arriving Friday,
PNoy expected later

Liberal Party vice presidential candidate, Rep. Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo (Camarines Sur, 3 rd District), is arriving in Negros Occidental Friday, while President Benigno Aquino III and LP standard bearer Mar Roxas may visit the province later this month.

Roxas is expected later in the month with the Liberal Party senatorial slate.

Meanwhile, Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante last night said Aquino has been invited to the inauguration of the Cadiz solar farm on February 19 but there has been no confirmation yet on whether he will arrive.

The Zonta Club of Bacolod will host the Clubs of Zonta International District 17 Area 3 Meeting from February 5-7, in Bacolod City with Robredo as guest of honor and speaker Friday, a press release yesterday.

The meeting anchored on the theme, “Facing Challenges Affecting Women of Today”, is expected to gather international women leaders including Zonta International District 17 Governor Lalivan Karnchanachari, Zonta International Past President Olivia Ferry, and delegates from the 11 Zonta Clubs in the Visayas and Mindanao, Josefa Puentevella, Zonta International District 17 Area 3 director, the press release said.

Robredo, a lawyer and running-mate of Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas, is a staunch advocate for the empowerment of women and other marginalized sectors. She will address the Zonta welcome dinner on Friday, Feb. 5, at the Sugarland Hotel, the press release said .

The opening ceremonies will be held Feb. 6 at the SMX Convention Center at SM City Bacolod.

Other resource speakers invited to the meetings are Zonta International Past Director Dandy Gomez, Executive Judge Anita Chua, and Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC) chair Millie Kilayko, Zonta Club of Bacolod president Dr. Marilyn Marañon, said.

Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. It has more than 30,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 67 countries.

Its mission statement is to uplift the status of women worldwide. Zonta International District 17, Area 3 Director is Puentevella and Zonta Club of Bacolod President is Dr. Marilyn Marañon, the press release said.

Upon arrival on Friday, Robredo is expected to make whistle stops in Silay and Talisay cities, and will meet with Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. and other local government executives, sectoral representatives, campaign volunteers and industry executives, among others, the press release added.*
