A lone suspect, armed with an M-16 assault rifle, shot and killed a Chinese businessman and a security guard, and took an estimated P1 million in cash, in a robbery-holdup on Christmas day at Locsin Street, Brgy. 13, Bacolod City.
Police investigation showed that the unidentified armed suspect entered the JDS Mindoro Enterprises Corp. at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and opened fire at the people inside, after first killing the security guard identified as Jilbert Mayang of the Tracer Tracker Security Agency.
Mayang died on the spot, while Changle Wu, a Chinese businessman and son of the owner of the commercial establishment, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head. He was declared dead on arrival at the Dr. Pablo O Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City.
Three other Chinese identified as Yuan Long Hang, Zhang Xiao Dong and Wei Quang Hang were also injured.
Wei was hit in the left side of his body,while Zhang sustained gunshot wounds in the right thigh and upper right side of his body, Yuan was hit in his right side of his buttocks.
Supt. Romeo Mangwag, PRO 18 Regional Operations and Plans Division chief, said the suspect barged into the commercial establishment, using the partially-opened roll-up door and fired at the victims who were consolidating their cash sales.
Mangwag, in his report to the PNP Directorate for Operations, said the suspect, who was wearing a helmet, fled on board a red Rouser motorcycle.
Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino, Bacolod Police Station 1 commander, said their investigations showed that the firearm used by the suspect, was hidden in a Christmas gift box
Tolentino raised the possibility that the heist was planned, and the gunman hada look out.
The . 38 caliber revolver service firearm with five ammunition of the slain security guard was also reported missing.
The owner and employees of the commercial establishment were about to close for business when the suspect suddenly appeared and fired at them, witnesses said.
Police recovered three spent shells ofan M-16 assault rifle at the crime scene.
The robbery with homicide incident took place a week after riding in tandem suspects also shot and killed three persons and inflicted injuries to five others.
Alfredo Barcelona, president of the Bacolod-Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the Filipino-Chinese communityis alarmed over the incident.
They called on the police to determine if there is a syndicate responsible for the hold-up incident.
They are scheduled to meet the group of Chinese nationals to discuss security arrangements for their businesses, and with Mayor EvelioLeonardia and the Bacolod City police headed by Senior Supt.Flynn Dongbo on how to prevent the occurrence of a similar incident.
Dongbo maintained that it was an isolated incident. “We are doing everything to solve it”, he added.
Bacolod City Vice-Mayor El Cid Familiaran called on the police to further maximize their visibility operations.*GPB
