The suspect/s, who gunned down a former police officer in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 in Bacolod City, Thursday, are possibly guns-for-hire, Chief Insp. Benedicto Villarias, Police Station 2 commander, said yesterday.
Ernie Jaminal, of Barangay 3 in Bacolod was killed at a narrow street in the purok. He was shot in his head, hips, and left leg, a police report said.
Villarias said they have difficulty looking for witnesses as no one at the area is willing to testify, although they already have information that the suspect/s who killed Jaminal, came from inside the purok.
There is a posibility that the suspect/s were asked by personalities, who were engaging in illegal drugs,to kill Jaminal.
Villarias said they recovered three empty shells of .45 caliber pistols thatwere already subjected to ballistic examination.
Jaminal may have been suspected to be an informant for illegal drug activities in Barangay 2, considering that he was a former policeman and was frequently at police stations, Villarias said.
He said Jaminal was usually seen in Barangay 2, thatis considered one of the drug-affected barangays in Bacolod, but he had no reported enemies.
As a former policeman, Jaminal had gone AWOL (absent-without-official-leave) and was later dismissed from service.
A member of class 1990 of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force, Jaminal was an expert in lightarmour weapon and demolition, his classmate Senior Police Officer 2 Celito Dullan, said.
However, Jaminal was arrested during a drugs operation by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in 2013 but later his case was dismissed by the court in 2015, Dullan said.
He said Jaminal was recently trying to consolidate his papers for reinstatement at the PNP national headquarters at Camp Crame but he failed due to lack of finances.*SGG
