Negros Occidental officials said yesterday it saddened them to learn that Vice President Leni Robredo has resigned from the Cabinet effective today.

Robredo announced yesterday that she was resigning from the Cabinet after being sent a text message to stay away from its meetings by Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco Jr. on instructions of President Rodrigo Duterte.

NDFP opposes
Marcos return

Adviser Luis Jalandoni of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines Saturday said the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng Bayani is a violation of the peace agreement on human rights and will be tackled in the NDFP peace negotiations with the Philippine government.

The NDFPhas strongly opposed theburial of Marcos at the LNMB that portrayed him as a hero and model, Jalandoni saidin an interview at a peace forum in Bacolod.

Jalandoni, a former priest, was joined by his wife ConiLedesma, a former nun, and currently a member of the NDFP negotiating panel in the peace talks with the government. They are both fromSilay City, Negros Occidental. moremoremore

Drug surrenderers in
NIR reach 27,399

The number of drug surrenderers in the Negros Island Region rose to 27,399, as a result of the five-month implementation of Oplan Tokhang by the police since July.

Records of the Police Regional Office 18 showed that 1,698 drug pushers and users surrendered last month to various police units in Negros island.

Of the drug personalities who surrendered, 12,994 gave themselves up to the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office. Negros Occidental PPO accounted for 11,009, while the Bacolod City Police Office recorded 3,446 drug surrenderers. .
