Bike-riding robber
slain, one injured

A suspected robber was shot and killed while his companion was injured a few minutes after they snatched the shoulder bag of a fast food crew member in Barangay 9, Bacolod City, at about 11:40 p.m. Monday, the police said.

Carmelo Moncada of Talisay City in Negros Occidental died on the spot while Rosjohn Jimenez, 27, is now confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Chief Insp. Benedicto Villarias, Police Station 2 commander, said yesterday.

Moncada and Jimenez both sustained gunshot wounds on their backs, Villarias said.

Investigation showed that Jimenez grabbed the bag of Valyn Joy Barilea, 22, of Barangay Zone 1 in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, who was walking at the North Capitol Road in Barangay 9, Villarias said.

Jimenez then boarded the motorcycle driven by Moncada, and escaped, Villarias said.

Several minutes later, Moncada and Jimenez were shot by still unidentified suspects, on board a motorcycle, Villarias said.

No one at the scene of the incident could pinpoint the man who followed and shot Moncada and Jimenez, Villarias said, adding that they have not recovered any empty shells from the scene.

Jimenez, who escaped after they were shot, had gone home to Talisay to change his clothes and proceeded to the CLMMRH for treatment. He told the security guards he was looking for spiders when he was shot, Villarias said.

He said Jimenez was arrested only at about 4 a.m. yesterday when he went to the CLMMRH.

The body of Moncada, meanwhile, was brought to the ABE Funeral Homes, police records show.

Recovered from the bag of Barilea were identification of a company car, two cellular phones, a wallet containing P1,000 in cash, a coin purse, a make-up kit, and several ATM cards, police records show.

Barilea also positively identified Moncada and Jimenez as the ones who snatched her bag, the police said.

Villarias said Moncada and Jimenez are on the Rogues' Gallery of the police as they have previously been involved in several robbery hold-up and theft incidents in the Bacolod and Talisay areas.*SGG
