GSIS to pay medical claims

MANILA -- GSIS is now processing all qualified employee compensation medical reimbursement claims that were filed before Dec. 22, 2013 by members who sustained work-connected diseases or accidents.

The Employees' Compensation Commission approved the payment of the pending EC claims on July 1, 2016 via Board Resolution No. 16-05-19.

ECC is the policy-making body that implements the Employees' Compensation Program for public and private sector employees and their dependents in the event of work-related contingencies, such as sickness, injury, disability, or death.

Prior to BR No. 16-05-19, ECC issued BR 13-10-13 effective Dec. 22, 2013 lifting the suspension of payment of medical reimbursement claims.

A total of 560 claimants stand to benefit from the retroactive payment, with pending claims amounting to around Php7.07 million.

GSIS's actuarial study revealed that the retroactive payment will not significantly impact on the State Insurance Fund that GSIS manages.* PNA
