Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday attributed his being included in the list of 10 governors to be cited by the Duterte administration for stemming the illegal drug trade in their provinces to a concerted effort of Negrenses.

It is not only me, the campaign against the illegal drug trade in Negros Occidental is a concerted effort of local officials, the police, civil society, non government organizations and the media, he said.

The drug problem has been greatly reduced under President Rodrigo Duterte and should be sustained to prevent its recurrence, he said. . moremoremore

IRA up 13.6% in 2017

ILOILO CITY -- The Internal Revenue Allotment of local government units from Western Visayas and Negros Occidental will increase by 13.6 percent in 2017 compared with this year, according to the Department of Budget and Management here.

Alfonso Bedonia Jr., DBM regional director in Western Visayas, said that the region, including Negros Occidental, will have P39.564 billion combined IRA in 2017. moremoremore

‘Bato' to install new NIR
cop director Thursday

The names of Chief Supts. Renato Gumban and Edwin Jose Nemenzo cropped up among those reportedly vying for the position of regional police director of the Negros Island Region.

Chief Supt. Conrado Capa, the first NIR police director, is retiring from the police service on Aug. 25.

PNP chief, Director General Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa, is arriving on Thursday to install the successor of Capa, who has yet to be known. .
