Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said the coalition of the United Negros Alliance with the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan of President Rodrigo Duterte has no bearing on a possible UNegA, Love Negros merger.
“I don't think the national party (PDP Laban) has any bearing on a reunification at the provincial level,” said Lacson, of Love Negros and the Nationalist People's Coalition.
There has to be a meeting of minds of both local parties, Lacson said.
UNegA is headed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. who, along with many of his partymates, have submitted their applications to join PDP-Laban.
The number of UNegA members who submitted applications to join the ruling PDP-Laban rose to 64 yesterday, United Negros Alliance secretary Angel Verdeflor said.
The latest additions are Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Maguilimutan, vice mayors Manuel Vera of La Castellana and Joselito Malabor of Isabela, and councilors from La Castellana, he said.
Among those who submitted their application forms earlier with Marañon were Board Members Salvador Escalante and Samson Mirhan of the 2 nd District;
Mayors Alfredo Marañon III of Sagay City, Patrick Escalante – Cadiz City, Ernesto Estrao – Hinoba-an, Lourdes Escalante – Manapla, Richard Jaojoco – Toboso, and Cicero Borromeo - Candoni;
Vice mayors Narciso Javelosa – Sagay City, Jefre Encoy – Hinoba-an, Felix Robles – Manapla, Lilia Decolongon – Cadiz City, and Diomedes Magada - Candoni.
Councilors from Sagay City, Cadiz City, Victorias City, Hinobaan, Hinigaran, Toboso and Moises Padilla also submitted PDP Laban application forms.
More local officials are expected to join PDP-Laban as there are still some asking for application forms, Board Member Salvador Escalante, UNegA secretary general, said.
UNegA members approved a resolution last week for the coalition of UNegA with PDP Laban, he reiterated.*CPG
