A jail visitor was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment yesterday for carrying nine grams of shabu at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, in July 2013.
Regional Trial Court, Branch 52 Judge Raymond Joseph Javier, found Ma. Fatima Uy, 33, of Barangay Estefania in Bacolod, guilty for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police records show that on July 23, 2013, Uy was arrested after suspected shabu worth P50,000, wrapped in toilet paper, was recovered from her bag at the Bacolod City District Jail Male Dormitory, now the Metro Bacolod District Jail with Special Intensive Care Unit.
Uy visited her inmate friend, Alfredo Aplasca, BCDJ Control and Security chief, Senior Jail Officer 2 Jayson Baltazar, said.
When Uy was frisked at the searching area and her belongings checked by JO3 Girlie Ordinario, she made an excuse to use the comfort room at the jail premise. Ordinario followed her and confiscated her bag, where the two big heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu wrapped in toilet paper, were hidden, Baltazar said.
The Court also ordered the transfer of Uy to Muntinlupa where she will serve her remaining sentence of 17 years, a TV Patrol Negros report said.*SGG
