No parking zones up

The Bacolod Traffic Authority will impose No Parking Zones along Lacson and Araneta streets in Bacolod City from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting today.

Rodolfo Song, BTAO concurrent administrative caretaker, said they have conducted an information drive in previous weeks concerning the implementation of No Parking Zones under City Ordinance 338, Series of 2003.

Bacolod Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Transportation, said he met with acting BTAO Police Supt. Armando Tubongbanua regarding the implementation of the No Parking Zone ordinance.

Meanwhile, Handumanan Kagawads Dan Depa and Jojo Hiponea said they have passed a resolution requesting the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to allow Handumanan Public Utility Jeepneys to enter the downtown area since most of their constituents study or work there.

Ramos said their request cannot be approved unless C.O. 338 is amended. But it can be granted temporarily if there is a traffic experiment.

He will refer their request to the BTAO. If a traffic experiment will be requested by the BTAO, they will be included. The experiment will last for 30 days, he said.
Ramos said he told the Handumanan kagawads to make a request because he believes there is a need to reroute traffic in Bacolod.

Depa said Handumanan has about 100 PUJs.
They are requesting for a traffic experiment because they want to know if their request to allow Handumanan PUJs to enter the downtown area will aggravate the traffic situation or not, he said.

They are also willing to pay an additional P3 in the jeepney fare, he added.*CGS
