Mayor in ‘narco list'
negative for drug use

Mayor Beda Cañamaque of Basay, Negros Oriental, tested negative for drug use, based on the result of the test he voluntarily submitted himself to recently, after he was named by President Rodrigo Duterte as among those involved in the illegal drugs trade.

He had appeared before Senior Supt. Nestor Tiempo, director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, submitted himself to a drug test, and stressed that he has never been into drugs.

In a press conference yesterday, Cañamaque claimed that he expects to be vindicated for the bad publicity against him after what he described as “reliable and classified information” showed he was merely dragged into the controversy because of a land dispute between a relative of his wife and another family in Bayawan City. .
