Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno would not budge yesterday, the Negros Island Region budget will not be included in the 2017 national budget, Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo said.

Degamo and Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. met with Diokno in Manila yesterday to lobby for the NIR budget but failed.

Eleven persons, allegedly responsible for the reported hazing incident at a resort in Murcia town, Negros Occidental Saturday, are set to be charged for violation of Republic Act 8049, or the Anti-Hazing Law tomorrow, Senior Insp. Lawrence Bathan, Murcia Police Station chief, said yesterday.

The parents, grandparents and aunts of three senior high students, filed the hazing complaints at the Murcia Police Station Sunday against the Citizens Army Training commander, several senior officers, and the school principal, Bathan said.

He said the minors, who are students of a public high school in Murcia, told the police that they were going through CAT training on rescue at a resort and were shocked when a ceremony was held where they were blindfolded and hit on their bodies. moremoremore

‘No plans to enter Mt. Talinis'

Energy Development Corp. officials yesterday clarified that they are not expanding their operations into the Mt. Talinis area in Negros Oriental for their 60-megawatt expansion project, contrary to claims of environmental groups.

The 60MW expansion is not in terms of area, but of capacity, Jay Joel Soriano, head of the Negros Island Geothermal Business Unit, stressed.

He said their expansion is within the 5,160 hectares development block, a concessionaire area granted to EDC in operating the Palinpinon Geothermal Plant..
