Duterte links NIR mayor,
2 police officers to drugs

A Negros Oriental mayor and two police officials assigned at the Negros Island Region PNP headquarters were among those linked to the illegal drug trade by President Rodrigo Duterte yesterday.

Duterte revealed more than 100 names of politicians, judges and policemen, including Basay Mayor Beda Cañamaque (story on Oriental page), “P/Superintendent Delia Paz, Chief RDIDM, and Retired P/Superintendent Floro, Antique City PNP.”

Chief Supt. Conrado Capa, regional director of Police Regional Office-18 yesterday said that Senior Supt. Ricardo dela Paz and Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro are under the PRO-18. moremoremore

“The list speaks for itself. The President must have based his pronouncements from verified information given him by law enforcement agencies. But as in any democracy, those mentioned will certainly be given the proper venue to explain their side.”

That was the reaction of Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. after President Rodrigo Duterte named politicians, judges, and policemen linked to the drug trade yesterday.

Duterte gave those whom he named 24 hours to surface and “report” to their supervising agencies or they would be hunted down by the police and the military. moremoremore

Basay mayor denies link
to drugs, submits to test

Mayor Beda Cañamaque of Basay, Negros Oriental, yesterday requested President Rodrigo Duterte for a reinvestigation and revalidation of an intelligence report linking him to the illegal drugs trade.

He appeared yesterday before Senior Supt. Nestor Tiempo, director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, voluntarily submitted himself to a drug test, and stressed that he has never been into drugs.

Cañamaque was No. 9 in the list of 13 mayors and one vice mayor in the Visayas, who are allegedly involved in narco-politics, as announced by Duterte yesterday. .
