Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency Director General Isidro Lapeña confirmed yesterday that there are government officials, including mayors, who are involved in the illegal drugs trade in Negros Island.

However, Lapeña did not say how many mayors are involved and who these officials are.

Last month, several officials of Negros Occidental were tagged as alleged drug protectors and users in a blog “thevillageidiotweb”. The one who posted the blog, however, deleted it later. . moremoremore

‘Thou shall not kill' tarps up
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The Diocese of Bacolod yesterday put up two new tarpaulins in front of the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City condemning the rising number of killings in the country, without zeroing in on any particular group.

The message on the 5 x 10 feet tarpaulins does not single out any person or group, it cites all forms of killings that are against the teachings of Christ, Fr. Felix Pasquin, rector of the San Sebastián Cathedral, said.

The 5 th commandment "Thou shall not kill" was stressed on the tarpaulins that also said "drugs kill...crimes kill...corruption and poverty kill...abortion is killing...summary execution is killing. Life is sacred."
All forms of human activity that can kill are mentioned on the tarpaulins, he said. moremoremore

Drug suspect shot dead
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A drug suspect was shot dead after he resisted arrest and fired at a police officer during a buy-bust operation at around 11 p.m. Wednesday in Emilio Aguinaldo Street, Amigo Subdivision, in Piapi, Dumaguete City.

Police identified the fatality as Victor Asonio, 46, separated, and a resident of Barangay Looc, also in Dumaguete. He was the subject of Operation Tokhang twice.

Dumaguete acting chief of police, Supt. Jovito Atanacio, said a drug transaction between a police asset and the suspect was for them to meet at 11 p.m. Wednesday, but when the buy-bust was consummated, Asonio noticed that he was transacting with a police-poseur buyer and immediately pulled a gun and fired at the police officer, who reacted quickly and fired his service firearm. .
