P66M set for RPA communities

The national government has earmarked P66 million for the Department of Interior and Local Government –PAMANA projects for the three Peace and Development Communities of the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Mangagawa-Pilipinas-Revolutionary Proletarian Army- Alex Boncayao Brigade (Tabara Paduano Group in Negros Occidental.

The three PDCs are located in Brgy. Tagucon, Kabankalan City, Brgy. Celestino Villacin in Cadiz City and Brgy. Bagonbon, San Carlos City.

During its regular session yesterday, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental approved the resolution of the Provincial Peace and Order Council for the DILG-PAMANA funded projects for three PDC sites in Negros Occidental, with a budget of P66 million.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process is targeting the signing of a closure agreement between the government and the RPM-P-RPA-ABB (Tabara Paduano Group) before President Aquino's term ends on June 30.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles said the closure agreement, which had been worked out by OPAPP and the former rebel group after President Benigno Aquino III came into power in 2010, will lead to the dismantling or decommissioning of the RPA-ABB Tabara Paduano Group, based in Western Visayas.

 

 

The RPA-ABB has about 700 armed members in Negros and Panay.

The Negros SP also expressed concurrence with the approved resolution of PPOC endorsing to the Protected Area Management Board of the Northern Negros Natural Park the approved DILG-PAMANA projects for the PDC sites in Brgy. Celestino Villacin in Cadiz City and Brgy. Bagonbon in San Carlos City.

Members of the defunct RPA-ABB, now known as Kapatiran, have been employed as forest guards by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Negros and Panay, since 2014.*GPB
