7,200 jobs available

More than 7,200 job vacancies are up for application at the Department of Labor and Employment-Negros Occidental Field Office Labor Day Job Fair at SM City, Bacolod Main Atrium on May 1.

Interested applicants may enlist in the pre-registration and job matching booth at SM City Bacolod Main Atrium until tomorrow, Friday, for a faster access to the job fair, DOLE-6 Assistant Regional Director Cyril Ticao said.

The unemployment rate of Western Visayas has decreased by 1.2 percent, from 6 percent in 2015 to 4.8 in 2016, and underemployment has also decreased from 21.4 percent to 18.4 percent, and the employment rate increased from 94 percent to 95.2 percent.

DOLE has invited 65 local companies and 15 Philippine Overseas Employment Administration-licensed agencies to the Labor Day job fair, he said.

Local companies are looking for employees in business process outsourcing, or call centers, construction/ manufacturing, and retail/wholesale industries, he said.

Overseas employers in Kuwait, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates are looking for skilled workers, including welders, carpenters, mason, pipe fitters, service crew, cashiers and drivers, he said.

During the 2015 Labor Day job fair, 2,420 registered for the fair, 700 were qualified applicants and 150 were hired on the spot, he also said.*KBC
