Roxas pledges support
for NIR, slams Benitez

LA CARLOTA CITY -- Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas yesterday pledged continued support for the Negros Island Region should he win the presidency, and slammed Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) who is now supporting the presidential bid of Grace Poe.

Benitez, former Negros Occidental LP chairman, said last week that Poe will win the presidential race in Negros Occidental that has been dubbed as “Mar Roxas country”.

But Roxas, at a press conference in La Carlota City, said “ He (Benitez) will be sadly mistaken and he will be sadly disappointed.” moremoremore

Thousands create seas of yellow

Liberal Party presidential bet Mar Roxas, his runningmate Leni Robredo and their senatorial candidates barnstormed through four cities in Negros Occidental yesterday drawing a crowd that organizers placed at about 55,000.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. placed the crowd in Cadiz City at 30,000, while former Negros Occidental Governor Rafael said the crowd at the Bacolod rally last night was 15,000.

The LP team also drew crowds of 5,000 each in Kabankalan City and La Carlota City yesterday morning.

President Benigno Aquino III has called off his visit to Negros Oriental today due to pressing matters in Manila, the Philippine Information Agency said.

The president's advance party arrived Monday and had conducted ocular inspection at the site in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, where Aquino was scheduled to lead the inauguration of the network connecting the towns of Sta. Catalina and Pamplona and Tanjay City, worth about P821.93 million.
