Nietes eager to defend
WBO crown at home

Reigning World Boxing Organization junior flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes yesterday said he is excited to face any challenger in his voluntary defense fight on May 28 at the St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City.

Nietes, the longest reigning world champion, will topbill the 36 th edition of the Pinoy Pride Boxing Spectacle, a collaboration between ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports, which will also feature Cagayan champion Milan Melindo and Negrense world-class fighter Arthur “King “ Villanueva.

Aldeguer said they have been working to put together a fight for Nietes in Bacolod since it has been fiver yeas since the Negrense champion fought at home.

He said the May 28 ring battle will be a voluntary fight for Nietes as he is scheduled for a mandatory defense of his WBO junior flyweight title against Moises Fuentes in the US this September.

Nietes said he is happy to fight before the homecrowd and he will do his best to protect his world title.

In preparation for the big fight next month, Villamor said Nietes has been working out with different sparring partners at the ALA Gym and they are ready for any opponent.*NAB
