Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. turned over the P2 million marketing assistance to the Alliance of Hog Raisers of Negros Occidental during the Governor's Night for the 25 th National Hog Convention and Trade Exhibits at the Provincial Capitol last night.
AHRANO President Cynthia de la Cruz said the marketing assistance will be used to assist small backyard hog raisers in order to sell their products at par with the general market price of pork.
She said small backyard raisers tend to earn less from commercial and large-scale raisers because of brokers dealing with buyers instead of the raiser directly transacting with buyers.
Most of the time this discourages small backyard raisers in going on raising swine as a form of livelihood, she said. AHRANO presented the report on affected raisers to Marañon.
The assistance of P1 milliion each will be given to the raisers of northern and southern Neg. Occ.
AHRANO said it ultimately hopes that through this marketing assistance funds, the members of the alliance will have only one price of pork throughout the province, she also said.*KBC
