The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition for certiorari filed by Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella for failure to show that the Ombudsman committed grave abuse of discretion when it issued its judgments in the case filed against him involving the purchase of alleged overpriced IT computer packages amounting to P26 million.
Puentevella filed a case against the Ombudsman et al, on Feb. 24, 2016, asking the Supreme Court to dismiss the case.
Nominal complainant and private respondent Joselito Bayatan said the decision of the Supreme Court dismissing the petition of Puentevella on his allegation that it took the Ombudsman a long time to investigate his computer case, involving the buying of overpriced computers for public schools at P400,000 each, will prove that, at the very start, his defense was very weak and may even be a foreboding sign of his guilt.
The P436 million West Tower of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod is now open to provide better health services to the people of the Negros Island Region.
The 6-storey building with a total floor area of 5,460 square meters is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including modern operating rooms.

‘Negros a big source
of renewable energy'
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW
Senatorial candidate Miguel Zubiri said the Negros Island Region is one of the country's biggest sources of renewable energy.
He said, “we are now seeing the fruits of our labor after that law was passed in 2009”, referring to the Renewable Energy Act, or Republic Act 9513, that he authored in 2008.
During his recent visit to Dumaguete City, Zubiri said the renewable energy industry in the country is thriving, with 406 projects, to date, all over the Philippines.
