A Belgian national suffered a fatal arrhythmia or heart attack after a diving activity at the Pura Vida Beach Resort in Barangay Pob. District 3, at 10:22 p.m. Monday in Dauin town, Negros Oriental.
Police Officer 3 Ernesto Credo of the Dauin Police Station confirmed yesterday the reported death of Roel Eric Gilbert, 63, a Belgian national, that was posted in the internet by concerned citizens April 4.
Dauin police personnel proceeded to the area and conducted an initial investigation on April 4, and stated that at about 6 p.m. that day, Gilbert and eight other Belgian nationals engaged in water sports activities, like swimming and diving.
The report said that at 7:30 p.m., the group finished their activity and was about to disembark from their boat when the victim complained of chest pains and then lost consciousness.
It added that a companion applied first-aid and CPR, and brought the victim to the Holy Child Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician, Dr. Floyd Villarin. He said the cause of death is fatal arrhythmia.*RG
