Ten Negrense companies will receive a P971,000 counterpart from the provincial government, in support of their participation in the 63 rd biannual Manila FAME, an international design and lifestyle exposition, in October.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon approved the counterpart after the proposal presentation of Department of Trade and Industry-Negros Occidental, Association of Negros Producers and DTI-Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions representatives on March 21, Mae Buaron, senior trade and industry development specialist, said yesterday.
“Negrense firms will spend a total of P2.4 million for Manila FAME and with the counterpart, the burden will be less for them,” she said.
Buaron said the counterpart will fund the registration fee, construction of the Negros pavilion, and part of the freight cost.
This year's participating companies are manufacturers of furniture, home accents, festive and seasonal decors, and gift items, Buaron said.
The companies have undergone product development under a consultant paid by DTI to produce three designs for each firm carrying the latest trends in the industry, she said.
“We will test the marketability of these designs in Manila FAME and the Negros Trade Fair, too,” and if buyers will take interest in our products, jobs for Negrenses will be generated in return.”
In 2014, Marañon also supported the exhibition of 10 companies in Manila FAME with a government counterpart of P650,000, she said.*KBC
