Retired US soldier
punches cop, jailed
BY SHIELA GELERA

A retired United States soldier was nabbed for punching a policeman who arrested him with several members of the police react team for not paying his bills at a KTV bar at Lacson Street in Barangay 39, Bacolod City, at about 4:49 a.m. yesterday.

Dawyne Calli, 55, temporarily staying in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod created alarm and scandal, shouted foul words and insulted the policemen, Senior Insp. Richard Fajarito, Police Station 1 chief, said.

Calli boxed Police Officer 3 Dante Cawaling, team leader of the react team of Station 1. The police officer sustained a minor bruise on his face, police records show.

Fajarito said the owner of the KTV bar, whose name was not disclosed, asked for police assistance after Calli, who failed to pay his bills, created alarm and scandal.

Calli, who was observed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor, resisted arrest, Fajarito said.

Hours after Calli was detained at the custodial facility of Station 1, he told the police that he is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder or war shock, Fajarito said.

His Filipina wife went to Station 1 yesterday and a settled with the owner of the KTV bar, saying they are willing to pay his unpaid bills, Fajarito said.

As to the separate case of assaulting a police officer, Fajarito said it depends on Cawaling if he will pursue the possible charges for direct assault and alarm and scandal against Calli.

The DAILY STAR tried to reach Calli but he refused to be interviewed. He is now detained at the custodial facility of Station 1.*SGG
