P448M projects for north set
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

More than P448 million in infrastructure projects to be funded by the Philippine Rural Development Program, in coordination with the World Bank, have been either approved or lined up for implementation in northern Negros Occidental towns and cities, Provincial Planning and Development Office records show.

These are on top of the P185.9 million also allocated by the PRDP, for the rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads in sitios Magtuod and Vergara in Toboso, and Brgy. Caduhaan to Sitio Aluyan in Cadiz City, which is ongoing.

PPDO head Ma. Lina Sanogal yesterday said the rehabilitation of the 4.13 kilometers almost impassable road connecting sitios Magtu-od and Vergara, was among the main concerns raised by residents during the “Marching for Peace, Serving the Countryside” project of the Provincial Peace Integration and Development Unit of Negros Occidental last year.

The total project cost is P47.2 million.

The rehabilitation of Brgy. Caduhaan to Sitio Aluyan farm to market road, which used to be a stronghold of the New People's Army in northern Negros, with a length of 12.6 kilometers, has a budget of P134.7 million, PPDO records also show.

The next batch of farm to market roads already in the pipeline, as reported by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. during the recent Provincial Development Council meeting in Talisay City, and up for implementation are those in Brgy. Gomez to Zamora road in Pontevedra and the Hinicayan to Violeta road in Silay City, that includes the construction of a bridge.

They have a total budget of P190 million, and are up for bidding, PPDO records further show.

Marañon is encouraging other LGUs to submit their request for funding from PRDP for their infrastructure projects.

Other infrastructure projects approved by the Regional Project Advisory Board (RPAB), which evaluates projects for endorsement to the national government, also include the proposed construction of Himogaan, Dalayapan, Sicaba and Pinamintigan bridges in the cities of Sagay and Cadiz, worth P225.8 million.

Other farm to market roads approved by RPAB were those in Cadiz City and Toboso worth P32,522,258.

The documents for the proposed rehabilitation of farm to market roads from Martinez to Sitio Intaplan, Baviera to Divina Colonia in Sagay City, Manapla access farm to market road, upgrading of Sitio Lupa to Sitio Iliranan farm to market road in San Carlos City, as well as that of Victorias City to Consing-Riverside in EB Magalona, are still up for submission to the PRDP.*GPB
