Bautista, Ladon book q'final seats
in Asian Boxing Championships

Flyweight Ian Clark Bautista and light flyweight Rogen Ladon are marching into the quarterfinals of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships after prevailing over their opponents in separate bouts in Bangkok.

Bautista scored an impressive 3-0 win over Trong Thai Bui of Vietnam yesterday at the Thammasat University Gymnasium while Ladon overpowered Rakhmankul Avatov of Kyrgyzstan Sunday.

Joining the two Negrenses in the quarterfinals for the Team Philippines is welterweight Eumir Felix Marcial, who beat No. 2 seed Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan.

NOPSSCEA sports committee to
meet coaches, team reps today

The sports committee of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association will hold a meeting today with the team managers and coaches of members schools that will participate in the different sporting events of the league's 35 th Season.

Sports committee interim manager Roger Banzuela said they will discuss, among others, the submission of requirements, schedule of the competition, and playing venues.

Banzuela admitted that they are running behind schedule as NOPSSCEA Season 35 will open on September 7, but he is confident that everything will eventually run smoothly

Abcede to defend WBO
Oriental belt in Bangkok

Newly-crowned World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental minimum weight champion Jaysever Abcede of Bukidnon will defend his title in October in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Gusto nila ng laban ulit pero hindi rematch (They want a fight again but not a rematch),” said matchmaker Joven Jimenez, who arranged the title-fight of 20-year old Abcede (10-3-0) against the heavy-favorite Thai Pigmy Kokietgym (57-7-2).

Abcede scored an 11th round technical knockout against Kokietgym to bring home the vacant WBO Oriental minimum weight crown last Friday in Bangkok.
