‘Halt to Buri road rehab tragic,
funds may be lost'

Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia yesterday expressed concern that the halt to the rehabilitation of Buri Road in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City, may result in the loss of the funds intended for the project.

“Like many of you, I am very frustrated by the needless and baseless order of Mayor Monico Puentevella to stop the work on the reconstruction and improvement of Buri Road (Honorata G. Manalo),” he said in an open letter addressed to the people of Bacolod “especially those in Mandalagan and those who use the Buri Road.”

This is tragic, Leonardia said. “We had worked so hard to bring major infra projects to our city and now that funds are being given to us, we have an obstructionist mayor spoiling development. It is revolting to think that these projects are grants from the national government and will not cost the city a single centavo but because of petty politics, we might lose hundreds of millions,” he said. moremoremore

Thief using child
caught on CCTV

The act of a man, who used a minor girl to steal the bag of a bookkeeper of Hinigaran town in Negros Occidental, containing P35,000 in cash, was captured by a closed-circuit television camera at a fast-food restaurant in Bacolod City, Saturday.

The CCTV footage showed that while bookkeeper, Russel Cabatac, and her daughter were eating, the man using the minor as his cover stole her bag. He then concealed the bag in between his body and that of the child as he carried her out of the restaurant, the CCTV footage showed.

Senior Supt. Melchor Coronel, Bacolod Police officer-in-charge, said yesterday that the man may face charges for using the child to do an illegal act in violation of Republic act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. .moremoremore

More than 182.4 grams of suspected shabu, worth about P2.15 million, were confiscated during a saturation drive in Purok Mutya, Sitio Canday-ong, in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, yesterday.

The houses owned by Rosemarie Melon, Ryan Sales, Roy Romano and Jovie Sendiong were searched, through a warrant issued by Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio Jr.

The area was cordoned by elements of the Dumaguete police, regional public safety company, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and other law enforcement units, headed by Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos and Supt. Jovito Atanacio. .moremoremore
