Muslim communities in Bacolod City gathered yesterday at their Islamic centers to pray and celebrate Eid'l Fitr, the end of a month-long fasting during Ramadan.
At the Al Dhikr Islamic Call and Guidance Center in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod, about 400 Muslims and non-Muslims, including policemen, and soldiers, attended the celebration, Imam Omar Betita, head of the worship center, said.
Betita said they slaughtered a cow and the cooked meat was shared among the Muslims and the visitors.
The Muslims also gave certificates of appreciation and tokens to the members of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines during the rites.
The police, in return, thanked the 62 Muslims, who are now members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team, for their help.
At the Masjid Abubakr Islamic Center in Barangay 30, Bacolod, Muslims also prayed and shared food to celebrate Eid'l Fitr.
President Benigno Aquino III, in his Eid'l Fitr message, said “It is my hope that the activities during Ramadan strengthened your faith, even as the feast that now follows nourishes and rejuvenates both your body and spirit.”
Aquino also said, “May peace and unity prevail over our lands and waters, as we proceed to the next chapter of our journey on the straight and righteous path towards a more equitably progressive future.”*SGG
