held in Dumaguete
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

More than 1,000 participants joined the Nutri-Fit Walk early this week, in line with the Nutrition Month celebration, on the theme “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo”.

It was led by Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, the City Council led by Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr., Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2 nd District), City Hall employees, barangay officials, establishment workers, teachers and students from public and private school in the city.

City Nutrition officer Lourdes Taburasa said this year's campaign is to increase awareness on the role and importance of proper nutrition and physical activity in the prevention of overweight and obesity.

It aims to encourage Filipinos to make positive decisions towards the consumption of healthy diets and be physically active to prevent non-communicable diseases as a result of being overweight and obese, she added.

Sagarbarria said the malnutrition rate in the city went down compared to last year, and this was lauded by Arnaiz, who said the campaign must go on.

Arnaiz urged everyone to go on daily exercises for a healthy body, and for parents to monitor their children and not allow them to spend so much time in front of a computer or television.

The City Nutrition Council, meanwhile, awarded Barangay Taclobo as biggest contingent - barangay category; Most creative group - Barangay Cantil-e; Silliman Junior Business Executives (organization category); Asian College (school category); 4Ps for best slogan in the organization category, and the Dumaguete City High School in the school level.

Other Nutrition Month activities are a well baby contest, July 28 at Robinsons mall; inter-high school oratorical contest, July 23; food fair, July 30 at Quezon Park; and weight management forum, July 21.*JFP/PR
