Mayor Melecio Yap and three other Escalante City officials were suspended for 90 days yesterday in connection with the disbursement of funds for the travel of eight councilors of the city in 2009.
The Ombudsman's order for his suspension was served by Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Director Margie Biligan of the Negros Island Region in Escalante City yesterday.
Traffic was stalled in several major streets in Bacolod City Monday, particularly along Lacson Street, since no traffic enforcers were in sight.
Acting Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya yesterday said they received information that he had verified, showing that several traffic enforcers were pulled out from the areas where they were assigned Monday afternoon and this caused traffic jams especially towards the evening.

SP okays re-submitted budget
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE
The re-submitted documents involving the Provincial Development Physical Framework Plan, Provincial Development Investment Plan, and the Annual Investment Plan were approved in a special session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Monday.
The session was presided over by Board Member Mariant Escaño Villegas, and the documents were approved through a resolution, to the surprise of BMs Liland Estacion and Erwin Michael Macias, who had to yield to the consistent objection of the majority of the SP.
Unknown to them, the resubmitted budget is different from what they had opposed during the Dec. 22 special session, when BM ArnolfoTeves Jr. stressed the proposed budget should not be taken up by the SP because it has major defects.
