‘More hearings needed
for P1.8M budget'
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Councilor Claudio Puentevella yesterday said they need to conduct series of public hearings on the proposed 2016 general budget amounting to P1.8 billion, before the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod can start its deliberation on it.

Puentevella, chairman of the Committee on Finance, said they conducted the second public hearing on the proposed annual budget yesterday and still have to conduct a series of public hearings to ensure the exact and specific allocation of the budget for the projects next year.

This is the biggest proposed budget in the history of Bacolod. But this will not yet be included in the coming regular sessions, pending the collective submission of the committee reports, he said.

He said that, based on the guidelines of the Department of Interior and Local Government, the general budget fund for each year must be approved before the year end.

But there are still several matters that need to be discussed before the deliberation of the SP, he said.

Puentevella said he can only defend his proposal but it is still up to the majority of the members of the City Council to decide on the matter.

The general budget fund of the city government for this year is P1,550,000,000, he said.*CGS
