UNO-R Rams bow to
Lancers in PCCL

After five straight wins, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams yielded to the University of the Visayas Green Lancers last night in the Vis-Min Qualifier of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League 2015 in Ormoc City.

The towering presence of the Green Lancers' import Steve Cedric Akomo inside the hardcourt, made it difficult for the Rams to get their shots in, UNO-R head Rolando “Girom” Aledron said.

UV led as much as 25 points in the final quarter as UNO-R's offense sputtered and their defense crumbled.

He said Akomo scored at least 8 slam dunks against the Rams and after playing six games in six days, the fatigue took its toll on their players.

While the NOPSSCEA champions have to go through the Visayas regionals and slug it out with the finalists from Iloilo, Dumaguete, Bohol and Ormoc, the Green Lancers went straight to the Vis-Min qualifier.

After beating the Holy Trinity College of General Santos City, 90-75, on Tuesday, the Green Lancers advanced into the championship against the Rams, who beat University of San Jose Recoletos-Jaguars, 78-69.

Aledron said they tried to contain Akomo but it only resulted to his big men getting into foul trouble in the last quarter.

“We tried but our players are too tired to fight back,” Aledron said. Compounding their woes was when Ritcher Santillan got injured and needed to sit out for the remainder of the game.

With the win, the Green Lancers will advance into the Final 8 of the PCCL, where they will face UAAP and NCAA champions Far Eastern University Tamaraws and Letran Knights, along with CESAFI champions University of San Carlos Warriors.*NAB
