Sleeping driver hits bike, store
BY SHIELA GELERA

A multicab, whose driver allegedly fell asleep, hit a post, a motorcycle, and a sari-sari store at Araneta Highway, Bangga Gardenville in Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City, at about noon yesterday.

No one was injured, but the multicab driven by Hernani Eramis, 51, of Barangay Taloc in Bago City, Negros Occidental, the motorcycle, and the store both owned by Loreto Alit, 57, were damaged.

Jerry Mercurio, 52, who saw the accident, told the DAILY STAR that the multicab, that was travelling north of Araneta Highway, swerved to the right, hit the post, and continued until it crashed into the store.

“Bystanders waiting at the shed house, and the nearby trisikad drivers ran leaving their pedicabs behind, in fear that they will be bumped by the vehicle,” Mercurio said.

Alit, meanwhile, said that he was having his lunch in the store when he saw the multicab coming towards his direction, but it stopped several feet away and, luckily, he was not hit.

Eramis, who was still in shock, admitted that he fell asleep while driving, adding that he was awakened by the sound of the impact.

Eramis, who was reporting to his work as a construction worker in Bacolod, said he has no injuries but felt pain in his chest.*SGG
