Alcala to inaugurate P181M
Negros farm to market roads

The Philippine Rural Development Project under the Department of Agriculture will implement the rehabilitation of two farm-to-market road (FMR) projects in Toboso and Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, a DA press release said.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala will lead the inauguration of the Brgy. Caduhaan-Sitio Aluyan FMR in Cadiz and the Sitio Magtuod-Vergara FMR in Toboso today.

The FMR in Cadiz City at a total project cost of P134, 758, 000.00, will benefit the production areas of 877 hectares planted to sugarcane, rice and corn, the press release said.

The rehabilitation also aims to increase the number of vehicles by 15 percent that traverse the road influence area for the first five areas, to reduce hauling costs of farmers by at least 30 percent, and to develop 100 hectares for rice, 20 hectares for corn and 50 hectares for sugarcane production, the press release added.

The rehabilitation of Sitio Magtuod Vergara FMR costs P47, 237, 000.00. This has a direct road influence area of 1,000ha planted to sugarcane and rice.

Aside from the benefit of easy transportation, the FMR project is geared to expand the production area of at least 3 hectares for muscovado sugarcane, 2 hectares for raw sugarcane, and 1 hectare for rice annually, thus increasing the average production of agri commodities by 50 percent before the end of 2019, it added.*
