The Police Regional Office 6 has increased the number of police officers tasked to secure the participants from 21 countries of Asia Pacific Economic Conference meeting in Bacolod City, to 3,000.
Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, regional police director of Western Visayas, yesterday said this is to ensure the safety and security of delegates, and achieve a successful hosting of the summit in Wednesday and Thursday.
Angan placed on red alert all PNP units in Western Visayas since April 23, and ordered cancellation of all leaves.
Policemen and women have already been dispatched by the PRO6 to key areas of Bacolod City since Saturday.
While Western Visayas is generally peaceful and orderly, Angan said they should not be complacent in their security coverage, and he was committed to ensure a zero major crime incident during the APEC meeting.
But the security coverage, does not undermine the impact of petty crimes to the event, he said so the PRO6 has intensified the deployment of law enforcement personnel wearing civilian attires, with the support of force multipliers
A tabletop exercise on the security preparations was also held last week in Bacolod City, to test the readiness of the member-agencies for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation 2015 meetings.
The Site Task Group “Bacolod” is composed of 19 agencies divided into three Site Sub-Task Groups to ensure the clear designation of resources: Security, Peace and Order, and Emergency Preparedness.
Senior Supt. Jose Carillo has been designated commander of STG Security, while Senior Supt. Rhoderick Augustus Alba heads the STG Peace and Order, director Rosario Cabrera of the Office of the Civil Defense 6 will take charge of the STG Emergency Preparedness.*GPB
