Labor Month
preparations set

Preparations for the celebration of the Labor Month that will kick off Friday, spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment and the Regional Coordinating Council are now in place, DOLE Region 6 Director Ponciano Ligutom, said in a statement he issued yesterday.

Ligutom said the Labor Day Job and Livelihood Fairs on the theme   “Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan, Alay Natin sa Bayan,”   will be held in three venues in the region.

He said the venues for local companies and overseas recruitment agencies will be at the SM City-main Atrium and at SM City Activity Center, respectively, in Bacolod City, while BPO companies and the venue of the livelihood fair will be held at the Amigo Terrace Mall.

Ligutom also said that other major activities scheduled for the month-long celebration are the Convergence Forum on May 8, 2015 in Bacolod City, to enable the DOLE and its development partners to come up with a strategic plan in promoting livelihood and enterprise development in Western Visayas.

Other activities held this month are a symposium on Labor Standards Compliance on May 21 to 22, 2015 in cooperation with the National Labor Relations Commission in Bacolod City, and a trainors training in Boracay island on May 23 to 25,

In Iloilo City, a workers' forum will be held on May 27, 2015 in honor of the Filipino workers, while in Bacolod City, the DOLE, and representatives from workers' groups, has organized a Learning Session-cum- Concierto sg mga Informal Obreros   on May 22, Ligutom said.

  A forum on labor-related issues will also be held simultaneously in the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo on May 25 and 28, and to strengthen the federation of Family Welfare Committees of Panay and Negros Occidental, a Wholistic Wellness Congress will be held in Iloilo City on May 26-27, he said.

For the benefit of child laborers from the nine identified barangays in the Iloilo province that will soon be transformed into child labor-free barangays, the DOLE-RCC will facilitate the turnover of books from SM Foundation to local barangay officials on May 23, 2015 at the Jaro Plaza gym, Jaro, Iloilo City, Ligutom added.

  DOLE is also spearheading a Productivity Training will be conducted by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board for members of the Drugstores Association of Iloilo and Guimaras on May 2, basic Occupational Safety and Health in Iloilo City on May 4 to 8.

The 2015 Labor Month celebration is through the concerted efforts of the DOLE family of agencies as well as the various intermediaries such as the Western Visayas Occupational Safety and Health Network, Contractors' Network of Negros Occidental, Safety Organization of Negros Occidental (SONO), Education Industry Tripartite Council, Guidance Counselors' Network, Iloilo-Tripartite Industrial Peace Council,   Panay Federation of Family Welfare Committees   and Public Employment Service Office of Iloilo City and Province.*APN
