Baby boy needs help

A 6-month-old baby boy, diagnosed with Biliary atresia may die if he is not operated on soon.

Reyn Allan Salgado, of Barangay Taculing in Bacolod, is suffering from a life-threatening condition in infants in which the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not have normal openings.

His father Ronald told the DAILY STAR yesterday that his son, who has been confined for 18 days now at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, urgently needs a liver transplant.

He said the disease affects only about one out of every 20,000 infants in the Philippines but they need to raise P6 million for the operation of Reyn Allan that will be done in Taiwan or Thailand.

However, he said, his salary as casual employee of the Bacolod City government, assigned at the Public Affairs and Assistance Division, is not enough, and his wife Nenita is jobless.

Ronald said the situation of Reyn Allan, his first child, hurts him so much.

Those who wish to help baby Reyn Allan may call Ronald at 0949-767-0724, a press release from Bacolod City Hall, said.

Meanwhile, a Dinner for a Cause on the theme “His Smile is a Beautiful Sight, His Life is Worth a Fight”, will be held on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the lobby of Government Center to help Reyn Allan.

As of the yesterday, the family has P20,000 deposited in their bank account and they hope that the dinner will raise enough money to complete the cost of the operation, a press release said.

The dinner cost P150 pesos per person. Those who wish to buy dinner tickets may call 433-0344 and look for CarenTeruel, a press release also said.*SGG
