About 200 members of Task Force Mapalad carried placards and staged a picket beside the road in Hacienda Bariw, Manapla, while waiting for the convoy of President Benigno Aquino III to pass yesterday.
TFM national deputy coordinator Lani Factor, however, said Aquino failed to see their streamers as he rode a helicopter to San Carlos City and Sagay City.
Factor said they wanted to have a dialog with Aquino and ask him for his detailed plan on how to distribute the remaining 130,000 hectares of land to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries in Negros Occidental.
She said it is unfortunate that Aquino did not fulfill his promise to distribute the land to the landless farmers.
Although they failed to air their concerns to Aquino yesterday, TFM is schedule to hold a huge protest, this time in front of Malacañang palace on June 5.
About 50 members of BAYAN-Negros also staged a protest against Aquino at the welcome rotunda of the Bacolod City public plaza at noon yesterday, its secretary general Christian Tuayon, said.
They slammed the President for what they called his “apparent” attempt to cover up for Cabinet members and his allies implicated in the controversial pork barrel scam.
BAYAN Negros also hit the “anti-people policies” being implemented by the Aquino administration.
The Presidential visit yesterday was generally peaceful with no untoward incident reported, Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office said.
Lirazan said militant groups failed to stage protest rallies near the venues where the President went yesterday because of the presence of about 1,000 policemen.*APN
