A magnitude 6.3 earthquake with epicenter 49 kilometers southwest of Hinoba-an town in Negros Occidental hit at 6:16 p.m. yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao said he had not received any report of damage in his town but has fielded personnel to check its barangays.
The quake that was of tectonic origin also briefly shook buildings in Bacolod City.
Phivolcs said it was felt at Intensity V in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, and Intensity IV in Iloilo City, Bago City and Sipalay City in Negros Occidental, Pandan in Antique, and Basay in Negros Oriental.
No damage was reported, but aftershocks were expected, Phivolcs said.*CPG
