support for Ceres FC

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon rallies support for Ceres- La Salle Football Club as the team sets out for a date with sports history next week in the Asian Football Confederation President's Cup 2014 Group B Qualifier at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Marañon said he is grateful to the Ceres-La Salle Football Club for initiating a renovation that transformed the Stadium into a top-notch facility in preparations for the May 6 -10 tournament among North Korea, Turkmenistan, Taipei, and host Ceres in the AFC President's Cup qualifier.

Excitement is building up as football fans, not only from Negros island but the neighboring provinces of Cebu and Iloilo are coming to Bacolod to watch the exciting match-ups among the top football clubs from the East, Central Asian, and Southeast Asian region.

Pacquaio to lead star-studded
2014 nat'l Palaro opening rites

MANILA - Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will lead the star-studded opening ceremony of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa on Monday at the Laguna Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Pacquiao has accepted the invitation to join first Filipino Winter Olympian Michael Martinez, TV and movie actor and former Palaro swimmer Enchong Dy, basketball star James Yap and De La Salle track and field team captain Jericho Estregan in the torch lighting, Laguna Gov. Jeorge Ejercito Estregan said.

Five runners will run 70 meters each during the Palaro torch relay with Pacquiao to light the Palaro flame, Estregan announced in a press conference Wednesday in Calamba City.

Himamaylan boxer in
Lion's Cup finals

Ian Clark Bautista from Himamaylan City will fight for the championship today in the flyweight division of the Lion's Cup at the Sugathadasa Indoor Arena in Sri Lanka.

Bautista, along with bantamweight Mario Fernandez and women's lightweight Nesthy Petecio of the PLDT-ABAP team booked a seat in the finals after prevailing over their respective rivals in Wednesday's semifinals.

En route to the championship, the young Himamaylanon pug beat his Sri Lankan foe, PD Suresh, to advance into the finals against Anuruda Rathnayake, also of the host country.
