DAR water supply program up

The Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Occidental begun construction of the facilities for its Community-managed Potable Water Supply, sanitation and Hygiene project yesterday in Brgy. Baga-as, Hinigaran town.

Edna Villaruel, Agrarian Reform Officer 2, said they expect the project to be finished January 14 after which it will be turned over to the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries.

Villaruel said a wrap-up review session will also be held by DAR Provincial and national offices, with the officers of Brgy. Baga-as, Hinigaran town government officials, staff members of the Bureau of Agrarian Reform Beneficial Department from Manila and the ARBs.

She said DAR is also expected to launch a similar project in Sitio Tabidiao, Brgy. Mailum, Bago City this year, which is expected to benefit 38 members of the Friends of the Highlands Producers Cooperative.

CPWASH is a low-cost technology that guarantees continuous flow of clean water in rural communities.

The technology works through gravitational force, with water being drawn by a spring box at the source, usually elevated streams and springs, and channeled through pipes and into concrete jar-shaped water tank equipped with iron removal and bio sand filters.

Meanwhile, BARBD staff members will visit northern Negros Occidental, especially areas badly hit by super typhoon Yolanda.

Villaruel said BARBD will conceptualize projects to help those affected by the storm in these areas.*APN
