BY SHIELA GELERA

Wearing a green and silver gown to celebrate the 21st Panaad Sa Negros Festival, Alexis Danica Drilon of Bacolod City was crowned the Lin-ay sang Negros 2014 in its emerald year, at the jampacked Panaad Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, at about 12:30 a.m. today.

Drilon, 22, a Biology graduate of the University of St. La Salle, who also won the best in evening gown award, received P60,000 in cash, a trophy, a sash and a bouquet.

This is the third in a row that Bacolod City has brought home the crown, with Samyah Al-Dossary also winning last year, and Allysa Marie Villarico in 2012.

Isabela town's bet Nesha Faith Dianala, was first runner-up, winning P40,000 in cash, a trophy, bouquet, and sash.

Cadiz City's Shermen Rose Perez, who bagged the best in swimsuit award, was second runner-up. She received P20,000 in cash, a bouquet, a trophy, and a sash.

Blessed with fine weather, the competition was opened by a fireworks display.

Drilon bagged most of the corporate awards, while Murcia town's Annalita Vizcarra won the best in Flora and Fauna award, for her bat-like costume.

During the final interview, the five finalists, who included Binalbagan town's Alyanna Serran and Talisay City's Treni Rivera, were asked, "If they could make one thing come true for the good of all Negrosanon, what would it be?"

Drilon said she wants everyone to experience proper education, because from it, “we can promote tourism, and later we can help in the development of the province.”

The newly-crowned Lin-ay sang Negros, who considered the competition a tough one, told the DAILY STAR that she was very happy and thankful.

Dianala, 21, a nursing graduate of the USLS, said she would like the Negrenses to go organic, since it will help them to become healthy, and once people are healthy, it will boost manpower, and from it, success is at greater speed.

Perez, 20, a tourism graduate of La Consolacion College-Bacolod, said it should be globalization of organic agriculture since it could help the Negrenses.

Other candidates who made it to the top ten were Vizcarra, Maria Kristina Lim of Toboso, Apriel Claridad of Cauayan, Beverly Binghay of San Carlos City, Alyanna Serran of Binalbagan, Treni Rivera of Talisay, and Kristel Shane Genova of Himamaylan City.

Judging the four-hour pageant were model Sam Adjani, Miss 2012 Supranational third runner up Elaine Kay Moll, Mercalory Wedding manager Jonas Gapot, Man Hunt International 2013 June Macasaet, and Miss Earth Air 2013 Stephanie Stefanowitz.

Negrense song writer Charles Kevin Tan hosted the competition with actress and model Isabelle Daza , while GMA 'My Husband's Lover main cast members Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo, entertained the crowd and serenaded the candidates.

This year's battle of beauties was capped with a fireworks display.*SGG
