The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines are conducting preventive maintenance operations to avoid power outages in the May 13 national and local elections.
NORECO 2 Institutional Services manager Leovegildo Elmaco said the Commission on Elections provided electric cooperatives with a list of areas where the Precinct Count Optical Scan, or PCOS, machines are located, so ocular inspections of electric posts were made, a government press release said.
He said they have been checking these areas if there is need for clearing of vegetations, changing transformers, and testing the power equipment for immediate corrective action, in line with the synchronized elections.
The NGCP, in coordination with the electric cooperatives, has started the replacement of dilapidated backbone poles, rotten wood poles, cross-arms, corroded insulators, loose vibration dampers, meter box and test switches to ensure sufficient power supply.
Elmaco urged the public to report possible causes of power disruptions in their areas.
The NORECO management has created backup teams to monitor power before and during the elections to ensure that problems are immediately addressed, he added.*
