Henares elected president
of Marapara Rotary Club
Local poultry farmer Fidel Henares was elected as president of the Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara for Rotary Year 2013-2014, a press release from the club said.
In a handover ceremony at the Bantug Farm in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, recently, Henares lauded the projects undertaken during the term of outgoing president Mike Bantug, the press release also said.
He said that, during his term, he plans to raise additional funds so the club can expand its many community projects, especially the medical missions that, Henares said, are of great help to the less fortunate.
The induction of Henares and the new club officers will be held with 10 other local Rotary Clubs on July 19 at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, the press release added.*

Sipalay hospital to open soon
The Merceditas Montilla District Hospital in Brgy. Canturay, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, will be operational soon, and Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. has requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to pass a resolution providing funds and approving the operationalization of the hospital with a 25-bed initial capacity.
The request of Marañon was supposed to be tackled by the SP last week, but its session was cancelled due to lack of quorum among the board members.
Merceditas Montilla, cousin of Sipalay City Mayor Oscar Montilla and Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez Jr., donated the two-hectare hospital site, worth P15 million. The hospital has a budget of P107 million.
The 75-bed hospital with 14 private rooms, also have a decompression chamber to cater to the needs of scuba divers, who frequent southern Negros, Marañon said.
Montilla had earlier said the hospital in Sipalay will not only address the much-needed health services of the people of the south, it will also generate jobs.*GPB
