DSB accident

Two ambulant vendors died, and eight were injured in a vehicular accident Saturday night in Brgy. Igmayaan, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector Celjun Nemenio, Don Salvador Benedicto police chief, yesterday said driver Joel Imbon, 20, lost control of the Isuzo Forward truck that fell on its side, while negotiating a downhill curve in the Purok Talos highway, considered an accident-prone area, of the barangay.

Nemenio said the vehicular accident led to the death of a certain Joseph Antiquando on the spot, while Dante Artajo died while being treated at the emergency room of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Seven of the eight injured passengers are being treated at the CLMMRH, while the other passenger one, is now confined at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, also in Bacolod City, police records showed.

Nemenio said the victims, who are ambulant vendors and residents of Brgy. Codcod, San Carlos City, were on their way to the Libertad market in Bacolod City, to sell vegetables and rice grains, when the accident took place at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Imbon, who immediately surrendered to the Salvador Benedicto Police Station, is now in jail.

This was the third time since January, that a vehicular mishaps took place in the so-called accident-prone area.

In previous months, two vehicular accidents also took place in the same place, killing a minor and causing injuries to 67 others, police records show.

Nemenio reiterated his call for drivers to be extra careful and adopt all the necessary precautionary safety measures, while passing and negotiating the curved area and slope in the place.*GPB
