Nutrition Month celebration slated
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Dumaguete City government and City Nutrition Council have lined up several activities for the Nutrition Month celebration, that will kick off with a “nutri-fit walk”, 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

Nutrition officer Lourdes Taburaza said the walk will start from Rizal Boulevard for division A, Looc by-pass road, division B; and Robinsons Place, division C; and will all converge at the Freedom Park grounds where an awarding will be held for the biggest contingent (school, office, barangay, organization and cooperative categories), most creative group, most disciplined/organized group, biggest group donor (office/organization, schools) and best in slogan.

For the slogan contest, each contingent is allowed one entry that should reflect on the theme “Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Sama-sama Nating Wakasan (Hunger and malnutrition, let us end it together)!”

Taburaza said the activities aim to increase awareness on hunger issues and actions to mitigate hunger and malnutrition; encourage stakeholders to contribute in addressing hunger issues; and advocate for stronger political action to end hunger.

Other activities are a nutrition caravan on July 11, 16 and 18; well baby contest, July 19; inter-high school oratorical contest, July 26; food fair, inter-barangay booth and cooking contests, and daycare nutrition corner contest, July 25; healthy blood pressure forum, July 25; and daycare school garden contest, July 26.

Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria encouraged City Hall employees to join the walk and other activities.*JFP
