President Benigno Aquino III yesterday proclaimed the official candidates of the Liberal Party in Negros Oriental at a political rally at Quezon Park in Dumaguete City.
The Liberal Party slate was led by Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1 st District), who is running for governor, with Mark Macias as her running mate.
Also proclaimed were the candidates for the three congressional districts of the province, Emmanuel Iway (1st district), Bais City Mayor Karen Villanueva (2nd district), and former Board Member Marcelo Adanza (3rd district).
Other LP bets from the towns and cities of Negros Oriental, who are running for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, mayors, vice mayors and councilors, were also proclaimed.
Aquino pushed for Limkaichong as the next governor of Negros Oriental, citing her leadership by example, not just in Congress, but as well as the programs and projects implemented in her district to improve the lives of the people.
He expressed confidence that, with Limkaichong at the helm of the provincial government, “ang tunay na progresibo ay maisulong (real progress will be pushed)”.
The President said he believes that Limkaichong will not allow government funds to go to waste.
He also noted that Negros Oriental has abundant opportunities for growth and development, that include tourism and employment generation.
Aquino cited the popular dolphin-watching tours in Bais City and even the whale shark (butanding) tours in Oslob, Cebu, which is on the other side of the Tanon Strait from Negros Oriental.
He also mentioned the increasing job opportunities in the province with the sprouting of the business process outsourcing industries.
Aquino was accompanied by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, with some senatorial bets in the Team PNoy slate joining him during his trips to Bais City and Dumaguete City yesterday.*PNA
