COMELEC sees
‘festive’ filing of COCs

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Commission on Elections in Negros Oriental is gearing for the filing of the certificates of candidacy on October 1 to 5 of those seeking elective posts in the 2013 elections and provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba said he anticipates a festive mood then.

The COCs will be filed at the provincial, city and municipal COMELEC offices, and candidates will be accompanied by their supporters.

He said the five days will be solely for the COC filing, so the registration of voters will be suspended then.

COMELEC officers in the five cities and 25 towns of the province are all set for the COC filing, with instructions already disseminated and forms and other documentation prepared, Aba said.

Meanwhile, the COMELEC and members of the provincial Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center in Negros Oriental, the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army, have started meeting on plans of action for the election.

Aba said the JPSCC was instrumental in the peaceful, honest and orderly elections in May 2010 in Negros Oriental.

He said he is optimistic that this will happen again next year because concerned government agencies, nongovernment organizations and the private sector, have committed to help achieve it.*JFP
